About Logbook.co.uk
About Logbook.co.uk — plain-English UK record-keeping guides across 10 sectors, edited by Jamie Dawson with operator credentials in fire safety, security, and healthcare.
Logbook.co.uk exists for one reason: UK record-keeping rules are scattered across gov.uk, HSE, ICO, DVLA, DVSA, CAA, FSA, Motorsport UK, and thirty trade bodies — and when you need to know the answer, you usually need it in the next five minutes.
We write one guide per required document. What the law says, what the record must contain, who's responsible, how long to keep it, and what happens if you can't produce it. Every guide links back to the primary source so you can check us.
What we cover
Ten sectors, every required UK record-keeping document:
- Property — gas safety, EICRs, boiler service, planning, FENSA, solar, consumer units
- Vehicle & V5C — V5C, HPI, classic car provenance, motorsport, track days, DVLA
- Fire Safety — FRA, fire doors, alarms, Martyn's Law, care homes, HMOs, fire marshals
- Healthcare — NMC, GMC, HCPC, CQC, DBS, mandatory training, controlled drugs
- Construction — CDM 2015, scaffolding, LOLER cranes, asbestos, accident book
- HGV & Transport — tachograph, drivers' hours, fleet inspection, FORS
- Marine — RYA logbooks, Yachtmaster, dive logs, yacht logs, boat insurance
- Food Safety — HACCP, temperature logs, allergens, FHRS, cleaning schedules
- Security — CCTV, access control, key registers, intruder alarms, guard duty
- Aviation — pilot logbooks, CAA, EASA, PPL hours, digital vs paper
Who writes this
Logbook.co.uk is edited by Jamie Dawson, who also runs Gemini AM/PM (a UK fire and security business) and is involved with Nurses.co.uk (UK nursing job board since 2008). The Fire Safety, Security, and Healthcare guides draw on those operator perspectives — not desk research.
How we work
Guides are written by the editor and checked against the current UK legislation. Where legislation is unclear or has recently changed, we say so. We cite the underlying gov.uk, HSE, ICO or trade-body source in every guide. Every guide carries a "last reviewed" date — we revisit when the rules move.
We don't sell logbooks, software, or compliance services on Logbook.co.uk itself. Where commercial relationships are relevant (for example, the editor's role at Gemini AM/PM is occasionally referenced in Fire Safety and Security guides) the link is disclosed in line with Google's sponsored-link guidelines.
Corrections and feedback
Rules change. Courts interpret. We get things wrong. Email corrections to corrections@logbook.co.uk and we'll fix, date-stamp, and credit you.
